Lexus is Japan's largest luxury car manufacturer.
Lexus as a brand was created specifically for the American market in order to represent exclusively luxury models of the Toyota concern under its name. Lexus is now a subsidiary of Toyota Motors Corporation. The main manufacturing plants are located in Japan. Chairman Eiji Toyoda proposed a luxury brand at a secret meeting of the corporation's management, which happened in 1983. In 1985, the first Lexus car was released. It became the Lexus LS400 model.
Lexus has gained the reputation of the manufacturer of expensive and prestigious luxury cars, produced mainly for American consumers.
The cars of this brand, however, quickly became popular all over the world. The company produces SUVs and crossovers equipped with gasoline engines in addition to passenger cars. The company also produces "hybrids" - cars with gasoline-electric installations.
