Shamakhi which is known for its natural beauty has many opportunities for hiking and winter tourism.
In the mountainous areas, the temperature is slightly hot in the summer and mild in the winter. It rains 40-80 days a year. The average thickness of the snow is 30-50 cm. This country attracts tourists and vacationers both in the summer and winter. The climbers' favorite Babadag peak is also in the area Shamakhi region.
Hiking. Pirgulu State Reserve is located in this area. It was established in the forest region, the south-eastern part of the Greater Caucasus. More than 60 species of beautiful trees grow in the reserve. The northern part of the region is mainly mountainous. One of the most popular tourist areas in the village of Pirgulu. At present, one of the largest astrophysical observatory in the world named after N.Tusi is located in the village of Pirgulu. It has unique flora, forests with hornbeam, oak, peach trees, and Pirgulu State Reserve, which is famous for its pasture. You can also find a brown bear, a jackal, and other wild species. It should be noted that in 2008 the Pirgulu reserve was included in the Shahdag National Park. The park, which covers Shamakhi, Guba, Gusar, Ismayilli, Gabala, Oguz, and Shabran districts, is currently the largest national park in the country.
