Cultural life of Lankaran
Lankaran is one of the regions where the traditions of folk art were created and developed. The art of matting is an ancient craft, more common in the southern regions of Azerbaijan.
The art of matting
The mat is usually weaved from a dried "piza" twig in a special vertical or horizontal machine. Weavers usually perform a certain rhythmic sequence to embellish the mat. The center of the mat production is Lankaran, Masalli. The mat is still used for flooring.
The region has historically developed pottery, matting hatting, and carpet weaving. The folklore traditions of Lankaran are rich. “Grandmothers” folk song is very popular.
Lem
Located in the Boladi village of the Lankaran region, it was built in the 19th century to be protected from heat. It is a two-storey house on columns. Lem became common in the 18th and 19th centuries. As the weather got warmer, people left their homes and moved to Lem. The lower part of the Lem is made of red brick, the top is made of wood and is decorated with handicrafts.
