Naftalan

The city of Naftalan is located in the northwest of Azerbaijan, 340 km from Baku. The resort is located on the banks of the Naftalan River, in the foothills of the Lesser Caucasus, surrounded by mixed forests. The area with a temperate climate is surrounded by a forest of pine trees, so the air is very clean.

Although the main purpose of tourists visiting Naftalan is to take a therapeutic oil bath, this modern city is also notable for its ancient history and green parks.

The easiest way to reach the city of Naftalan is the city of Ganja, which is located 50 km from Baku or the resort with an airport. It is possible to go from Baku to Naftalan in 3-4 hours by regular bus, and from Ganja to Naftalan in 1 hour.

Naftalan resort is located 338 km west of Baku, south of Ganja, 18 km from Goran station, in the foothill plain. The first medical center was established in Naftalan, which was declared a special resort zone in 1926, in 1928. In 2005, the first private sanatorium "Naftalan" was opened in Naftalan Resort. At present, the resort treats bone-muscle, peripheral nerve, peripheral vascular diseases, skin diseases, gynecological, etc. diseases are successfully treated. Applicants to the center first undergo a comprehensive laboratory and instrumental examination and receive naphthalene treatment and modern physiotherapy treatment methods according to their diseases.

Naftalan resort is a picturesque but small Azerbaijani town, so there are not many places here. Tourists who want to see ancient architecture and important cultural objects are recommended to take time for a trip to Ganja. You can visit the mausoleum of Nizami Ganjavi, the old Juma Mosque, the mosaic facade of the Glass House, the eastern ensemble of Sheikh Bahauddin, the Ganja Caravanserai, the scenic lake reserve or within 40-60 minutes or half an hour by bus with a rented car. It was built in a real Turkish bath in the 17th century.

That is why they left those crutches in Naftalan.

In the local Museum of Local Lore, an extensive exhibition on the history of the resort, archaeological finds on the territory of the ancient caravan route, as well as national costumes, jewelry, household items, and devices for the extraction of Naftalan healing oil have been created.

In spa shops, for example, you can find gift baskets containing bath balm, shampoo, and cream with medicinal oil extracted from Naftalan wells.
