The city of Gobustan is located east of the city of Shamakhi, 101 km from the capital of Azerbaijan. The land of Gobustan is located in the eastern part of the Republic of Azerbaijan at the eastern and southeastern foothills of the Great Caucasus Mountains. It is one of the districts of the Shirvan historical province of Azerbaijan.
The most interesting place in the territory of Gobustan is the cave labyrinths located in the valley near the city, in the village of Soyunlu.
The famous Shikh plain mounds, the remains of ancient human settlements of Dag Kolani village, the Diri Baba tomb (15th century) around the city, and the remains of Shah Abbas Caravanserai located in the very center of the city show that there were human settlements in these places in the most ancient times.
The most visited monument here is the Diri Baba mausoleum. Diri Baba mausoleum built in 1402 is a two-story mausoleum-mosque located opposite the cemetery. A commemorative text is engraved on the wall in which the name of Shirvanshah - Sheikh Ibrahim I is mentioned. The mausoleum is adjacent to the rock, a cave has been carved into the rock. This is the burial place of the saint. A narrow passage on the north wall leads here.
