Gazakh

In the 18th century, Gazakh was the capital of the Kazakh Sultanate. In the Russian Empire, Kazakh was the administrative center of the Kazakh district of Elizavetpol province, 10 km from the Agstafa station of the Transcaucasian railway and 104 km from the city of Elizavetpol.

In 1909, Kazakh received city status. In 1918, the Gazakh Teacher's Seminary was established in the city on the basis of the Azerbaijani branch of the Transcaucasian Teacher's Seminary of the city of Gori, the first director of which was Firidun-bek Kocharlinsky. Since 1930 — the administrative center of the Kazakh district of Azerbaijan.

In the city, there are carpet, cotton-spinning factories, food industry enterprises, an agricultural technical school, a medical school, and national theaters. Back in the tsarist years, Kazakh was considered the center of high-pile carpet production.

The main occupations of the population are carpet making and horse breeding (Deliboz breed).

Special attention is drawn to the caves of Damdjili and Dashsalakhly, which are located on Mount Avey.As a result of archeological excavations in the caves, artifacts belonging to the Paleolithic, Neolithic, and Middle Ages have been discovered. Eventually, this territory was transformed into a Gosudarstvenny historical and cultural reserve.

Ashug poetry occupies a special place in the culture of the city.
